  1. Local community

We will thrive a local community of builders in the four participating research institutions.

  1. Hardware publication platform

We will gather a community of interest to co-create an ecosystem for hardware publication, including a peer review system, that will provide recognition for the hardware makers.

  1. International collaboration

We will work inside GOSH, OSHWA and the RDA communities, producing guidance for makers in their path to open and FAIR hardware production, as well as driving further acceptance of the developed workflows.

  1. Research

We have been conducting interviews, surveys and observatory studies to understand the current practices and the community needs.

Welcome in team Thanks to an incoming Fellowship provided by the BUA, we are pleased to announce that Pen-Yuan Hsing will join the Open.Make team for the last six months of the project. Pen background If you have been active in the open science communities (especially GOSH, the Turing way book, or TOPS), his name will be very familiar to you. Pen worked with Robert in the OpenNext EU project, and met Julien in Geneva for the [heroes workshop[(REF)].

OHS2026 : Berlin student to participate via a 3 ECTS course !

This year in Mai (23-24.05.2026), theOpen Hardware Summit (OHS 2026), is organised in Berlin, in the main building of the TU Berlin. The Open.Make project (and our partner project LAUDS Factories) will be presented quite extensively, and a specific 3 ECTS course module at the TU Berlin will bring students in contact with open source hardware topics. Our first workshop in the Making Lab

On July the 17th 2025, Julien ran a MINToring workshop in the Making Lab. Young FLINTA students (15-17 years old) were invited in the Making Lab (which is situated inside the TU/UdK library) as part of the MINToring Program of the FU Berlin. We met Dr. Mouawad while being on the FU campus with the Mobile lab. Since we are a BUA project, we could easily collaborate with this initiative from the FU Berlin.

OpenMake on tour !

Berlin researchers can now access a central lab and a mobile lab to design and produce research hardware. The BUA mobile lab is on tour, with a first stop at the FU Berlin in June 2025.
